Trail Boss Suggestions

 

 

Select your run and date of run.  Check the web site to be sure no other run is scheduled that day.

 

Complete the “Run Submittal Form” – (located on the web site at the bottom of the run schedule)             with the following information:  Date of run, run leader and phone number, meeting location             and time, run level based upon the club Trail Rating System, is the run limited or unlimited,             other pertinent information.

 

Pre-run the trail no more than 1 week prior to the run date.  Look for possible lunch spots & potty             breaks

 

AED – Contact the Safety Chairperson and arrange to pick up the AED for the run.

 

Walk down the line up checking off the sign-up sheet and verify that all vehicles have a hitch point             front and rear, a tow strap and other equipment necessary for the run level.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  

 

All guests must sign the waiver form and their vehicles should be in line either in front of or behind             their sponsor.

 

Hold a driver’s meeting to discuss the following:

CB channel to be used

Directions to the air down point

Announce who are the Tail Gunner and Mid Gunner (if applicable).

Announce who has the AED and where it is located…mid group if possible.

Request that headlights be on when in route to the trail head.

On the highway watch for cars in a hurry to pass and leave a space between vehicles for them.

 

Before leaving, place the most novice driver/ least equipped jeep in the 3rd position between 2 more             experienced and better equipped.

 

Point out things of interest, obstacles, and direction of turns when more than one choice is available. 

 

Remind the group that EVERYONE is responsible for the jeep behind them.  When turning make sure             you are seen making the turn.  Tail Gunner announces when he has completed the position.

 

Do not drive so fast or slow as to leave large gaps in the group.

 

Photo opportunity - Tell the group to just call out on the CB.

 

Potty stops - Announce which direction the ladies should go as well as the men.

 

Spotting -  On the trail announce that spotting is available on request.  Spotting etiquette requires the             driver to indicate who they want as a spotter.  ONLY 1 SPOTTER.

 

Announce when the run is officially over and to take the jeep out of four wheel drive.

 

         The sign up sheet  is to be turned into the Run Chairperson. 

         Send  write up and up to 6 photos of the run (via e-mail /mail)  to the newsletter editor asap.
